A TRIP TO HAJO(ASSAM), Project for class IX students.

A TRIP TO HAJO

Hajo is an ancient pilgrimage centre for three religions: Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims. It lies on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, 24 km from the city of Guwahati in the Kamrup district of Assam. The area is dotted with a number of ancient temples as well as other sacred artifacts. The following photo is the entrance of sri sri Hayagriva Madhava Tample.

Hayagriva Madhava Temple is situated on the Monikut hill. The hill is situated in Hajo of Assam ,The present temple structure was constructed by the King Raghudeva Narayan in 1583.According to some historians the King of Pala dynasty constructed it in 10th century. It is a stone temple and it enshrines an image of Hayagriva Madhava. Some Buddhists believe that the Hayagriva Madhava temple, best known in the group of Hindu temples, is where the Buddha attained Nirvana. At this imposing temple, the presiding deity is worshipped as the Narasimha incarnation of Vishnu by the Hindus. The rows of elephants are seen on the body of the temple and they are fine specimens of Assamese art.

There is a big pond known as Madhab Pukhuri near the temple. Visitors used to wash their hands, feet, face etc. There are too large tortoise in this pond, also there are too many kinds of fishes there, which are very large to see. We gave them some corns and biscuits to eat.

The Kedareswar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated on the Madanachala Hill in Hajo. This Shiva temple is regarded as one of the ancient temples in the Indian subcontinent. This temple hallows a huge Shivalinga, made of stone, which is prevalently known as the Svayambhu Linga. It is also denoted to as the Ardhanariswara form of Lord Shiva. This Shivalinga is always shielded by a huge metal bowl.

Powa Mecca The most famous Muslim pilgrimage spot in Assam, it noted as the tomb of Pir Giasuddin Auliya, who was the pioneer of Islam in this part of the world. This mosque was built by Sujauddin Mohammed Shah in 1657 AD,during the reign of the renowned Mughal Emperor, Shahjahan.
It is said that was constructed from the soil that was brought from the city of Mecca itself Saudi Arabia. It is a wide belief that a visit to Powa Mecca in Hajo confers one-fourth of the merits that one can obtain from a pilgrimage to Mecca itself. As such, the place remains crowded by pilgrims and devotees all round the year, thus making Hajo an important tourist spot of Assam. Apart from the Muslims, the Hindu pilgrims of the region also visit the shrine, especially on the full moon day of the month of Jaistha.

Really it was an amazing trip for all of us. We learnt a lot about this historical place ,also gained a huge amount of knowledge from this trip. At last a special thanks to all our respected teacher for guide us and showed such place.

FLOOD AND SOIL EROSION IN ASSAM

FLOOD AND SOIL EROSION IN ASSAM A flood occurs when water overflows or inundates land that's normally dry. This can happen in a multitude of ways. Most common is when rivers or streams overflow their banks. Excessive rain, a ruptured dam or levee, rapid ice melting in the mountains, or even an unfortunately placed beaver dam can overwhelm a river and send it spreading over the adjacent land.   An annual feature that people of Assam have been living with ever since time immemorial. Year after year, it’s a repeat of loss of life, damage to crop and property, and loss of cattle and wildlife, We take great pride in claiming how far India has come since independence and yet, when it comes to Assam, the nation simply seems to take the damages as a fact of life and everything carries on as usual, once the flood recedes. The situation began to turn critical ever since the state experienced pre-monsoon showers in April a...
